Enceladus landing10/1/2001
The first Saturn moon to be settled by humans is now officially Enceladus. 132 people landed on Enceladus today. The first few months will be spent setting up habitations and facilities needed for the planned ice harvesting operations. Ice harvesting will not begin until early next year when additional equipment arrives. Due to outbursts of psychosis among crew members of other similar missions recently this mission includes 14 full time heavily armed security guards to police the miners. The very high ratio of security personnel on this mission has been questioned as it raises the cost of the mission significantly. But are you really going to trust a large group of ice miners millions of miles from the nearest police station to behave? |
